Although he is not a player with a huge poster of his face at Raymond James Stadium. Or a player who graces the cover of the Bucs program on match days. William Holston is still an incredibly important person in the organization of the Tampa Bay Buchaners.
He is big. He is strong. He is consistent on the field. He is the leader in the locker room. And he is constantly underestimated. Each of these factors has certainly contributed to Jason Licht and the front office of the Buchanars giving him an advantage as the player they wanted to bring back for another race at the Lombardi Trophy.

So that’s exactly what they did.
Although William Gholston is rarely the center of attention … when he speaks, you should listen. Especially if the topic of conversation has to do with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After all, he is entering his 10th year as a member of the Bucs - which further strengthens his status as the longest-serving player on the team.
In a recent episode of the Pevter Report podcast, William Holston offered an behind-the-scenes look at a number of different players and Bucs topics.
The interview was conducted by Scott Reynolds and Matt Materathey both did a great job of getting Gholston to really open up about certain topics.
Asked about his impressions of the Buccaneers’ selection in the second round of the draft and his latest teammate in the defensive line, Logan Hall, Gholston was not ashamed to praise the young man based on what he has seen from him so far in the OTA.
“His versatility. Its explosiveness. And like, how well he moves to be that big. I was shocked because I don’t always see guys my size and stature. He’s the same size as me, but he moves like Noah Spence … He’s there like a little fish. And it also retains information. I have high hopes for this guy. I know he will be able to produce. ”

He also talked about the team’s bitter exit from the playoffs in the NFC Division playoff game against the Los Angeles Reims. When asked how long it took him to overcome the loss, Gholston answered with great sincerity.

“I don’t know, I didn’t get over it. Usually 24 hours a day, but those things suck, bro. I think everyone felt what I felt. Come back, break up. It was the worst loss I’ve ever had in my life. ”
Gholston also talked about Vita Wei, including his impressive transition from a young player in the league, to one of the most important leaders of the Bucs in the locker room, and a valuable mentor for younger players.
“I can see the big V go through and get that big contract. Which he deserved because he is the dominant force. He is like a generational talent … It’s crazy to see how much mental strength Vita has. Now I’m in the meeting room and Vita is calling out blocks, calling out situations, listening to him do all this, and I’m like a man, we’re getting old … I’m excited to see what he can do like Type 1. ”
When asked against which quarterback in the NFL, Gholston would most like to be fired, he mentioned Tom Brady (pointing out a warning that he would obviously prefer to remain his teammate), as well as his former quarterback who became a bitter rival. James Winston.
“I look at James as a brother, he’s one of the brothers, but I want to get him off the block. After all, that’s my brother, but I’d love to do that.”
With the seemingly inevitable departure of Ndamukong Suha on the horizon, with Vita Wea ready to take on more responsibilities in his fifth season, and with a promising rookie (Logan Hall) who is expected to play a lot, William Holston’s role on the defensive line is clear defined as it ever was.
He will have the task of continuing his great defense against running, he will be faced with the challenge to improve even more as he rushes to the passes, where he hopes to build a career record last season (4.5), and most importantly, he will seek to enter into an even more prominent role as a locker room leader.
If you take anything away from this interview, it is that William Holston is extremely confident in his teammates, and not only is he personally ready to meet his high expectations for this season, but he is motivated to exceed them.
