Like millions of Americans, I lost my job during the pandemic. At first, I was fired from my job as a waitress. Then I started working for myself as an online fitness trainer, but it took me 10 hours to run the business and I only earned $ 1,000 to $ 2,000 a month.
So in July 2021, I decided to turn around. I gained my entrepreneurial experience and started using my TikTok and Instagram accounts to place wealth building tools and online programs.
By October, the business had started and my TikTok companion had grown to more than 40,000 followers. Since then, I have been earning about $ 8,000 a month in passive income through a commission from my associated posts, including those several months old and periodic subscriptions to my educational programs. What’s nice is that I now only work two hours a day, mostly posting on social media.
When people ask me how I can create a passive job that generates income, I tell them that there is a lot of hard work in the beginning, but it pays off in the long run.
Here is my best advice:
1. Automate your business
To generate passive income, set up automated systems at the beginning of your business. This will save you a lot of time as your most important tasks will work on autopilot.
Create a product that requires limited maintenance
I started my entrepreneurial journey as a personal trainer. But I have found that selling individual coaching services means that I will always change my time for money. To generate passive income, you need to offer a product that does not require as much energy to create and deliver the product.
Becoming an affiliate vendor solved that problem; I am currently selling products and services of other brands that I do not have to deliver myself.
The goal is to make the product once and sell it for a long time with limited maintenance. Some examples: digital courses, subscriptions to online communities and applications.
Automatically generate sales streams
“Sales Left” is the process that a customer experiences before making a purchase.
With my job, customers find me on social media and then go through my sales flow: they sign up for my email list and send them product offers there.
I have an established system on my website that creates a sales flow for me; customers are automatically added to my email list and introduced to the products without me having to do anything.
I use a platform called ClickFunnels, but there are other great options like Builderall or Systems.
Set up auto-reply to email
Rule Seven is one of the oldest rules in marketing. Based on research by Dr. Jeffrey Lant, it says that you need to contact a potential buyer seven times in 18 months before he is ready to buy the product.
But these days, with so many online ads, you may need to contact potential buyers even more often to make a sale. I use Aveber to automatically send daily emails to prospective customers who have not purchased my product until they purchase or unsubscribe.
I’ve seen other business owners use GetResponse and Mailchimp to send automated emails.
2. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel
I see that many people are trying too hard to completely invent the wheel with posts on social networks in order to bring their work to the center of attention.
But after gaining 109,100 TikTok followers, I learned that the key to spreading the virus and expanding the audience is to study what works for others. Of course, you want to be original, but you should publish content that people already find interesting.
Use this process to enter your own turnover on social media posts:
- Study what other people in your niche are talking about. For example, if you sell wellness products, is there a specific wellness conversation that you could add, or questions that people always ask in the comments section that you could answer? Use these insights to identify your message or information and tips to share.
- Pay attention to the formats used. Do your successful contestants publish a lot of stories told or a lot of dances covered with tips as text on the screen? Are their captions long or does the content in the post speak for itself? Note which formats resonate and think of ways you could do something similar.
- Dedicate yourself to hashtags and sounds that attract attention. Save the sounds and hashtags you see on the platform you’re working on. Add these elements to your intended format to show your message to as many people as possible.

3. Focus on problem solving
The main goal of any business is to sell a product or service. But after all, no one cares about what you sell - people worry about their goals, their dreams and their problems.
You want to indirectly market your product in a way that emphasizes how it can help meet the needs of your audience or help them achieve a goal.
4. To sell to your audience, get in touch with them directly
Individual posts on Instagram or TikTok are great for providing value and entertainment to your audience, but it is almost impossible for your audience to get to know you through these curated posts.
It is important to have a connection with your audience. As people get to know who you are, they begin to believe what you say and what you sell, which will lead to higher sales.
I collaborate directly with my audience by replying to their comments and messages or going live on Instagram and TickTook. This gives me the opportunity to build a personal relationship with them through honest back and forth conversation.
5. Be selective about what you promote
If you are planning to start affiliate marketing, here are the main things I recommend you look for:
- Great gravity: Gravity refers to the number of people who actively promote a product. If this number is high, you know the product is good.
- Low refund rate: If the product has a high rate of return, it means that many people are dissatisfied with it, so you want to avoid them. Promoting products with high refund rates can reduce your audience’s trust in you.
- Recurring subscriptions: These are the best types of promotional products because you will receive a commission payment each month each time a subscriber renews their subscription.
- Positive reviews: I always google Google for the affiliate programs I search for before I decide to promote them. I want to make sure that it is a widely loved product.
I also sell products that I personally enjoyed, such as the online course I used to start my own business.
