Summit West Diner in Denville Latest grant recipient
Celebrity West Diner Summit in Denville is served check, bill today, fresh from Morris County Small Business Grant Programlike Morris County County Board continued to help business owners hit hard by the pandemic.
Restored 1950s-style restaurant, located on Route 46 West, qualified for $ 14,287 in dollars, only shy of the maximum $ 15,000 allowed through the program. The restaurant was closed for more than three months during the pandemic, while it additionally struggled with losing customers, increasing stock prices and paying bills to keep the business open.

The stylized diner, which symbolizes fewer and fewer famous restaurants along the road to New Jersey, still bears the neon sign “West Side Diner” from its earlier incarnation.

Morris County Commissioners they personally submit some of the grant checks to talk to small business owners and learn more about the challenges they face in surviving a pandemic. Commissioners are also learning how the grant program can be improved and want it spread the word that the program remains open.

More than 600 applications have been filed since the Morris County Small Business Program was launched on Valentine’s Day with the slogan, “Morris County loves small businesses.” The Morris County Board of Trustees has created a grant program from pandemic relief funds issued through U.S. Rescue Plan Act.
Commissioners have committed $ 10 million to the effort, and Morris County is still accepting applications.
Most applications for final approval will be provided by each of the qualified companies and non-profit organizations a maximum grant amount of $ 15,000. While the remaining applications are still being reviewed, the program remains open for new applications.
There is no application fee.
Eligibility for the Small Business Grant Program includes, but is not limited to:
- The company has 25 or fewer full-time employees (or equivalent)
- In function since January 1, 2019
- It is located in Morris County
- Less than $ 5 million in sales / revenue
- Evidence of declining sales / increased costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Federal guidelines covering the grant program will specify exactly which costs qualify for coverage under the grant program and which applications may be approved.
Grants are limited to $ 15,000 per candidate. However, business owners and nonprofits are encouraged to submit applications that include all costs they believe may qualify for the grant, even if the total amount of one claim exceeds $ 15,000.
The final audit may determine that some costs submitted for consideration are not covered by the program guidelines. However, by submitting all eligible costs, applicants increase the possibility of obtaining the maximum possible grant amount.
