The oral decision on the obligation, for those who follow the future of university football, represents a moment just like before the sport in those colors of college.
Over the weekend, great calls were made from all methods in sports, as high school recruits, talented undergraduate students and potential transfer portals put an end to their individual recruitment processes.
The time around the wave of decisions should not be a big surprise either, considering that it was the first official visit on the weekend in June. It’s a time of year when college coaches routinely host a large number of talent on campus, through visits and college camps - so naturally many recruits are given the green light to commit, and many commit.
Working from the most experienced perspectives to talent for preparation with another year of football high school, key players have been selected to exit the NCAA transfer portals in Charlie Jones and Koh Moore. The duo made moves to play in the same conference while playing in the same position. Each sprayed at previous stations as well.
Jones, who entered the portal just two weeks ago, left a national mark as a hitter last fall in Iowa, where he was in the All Big-Ten selection. Also, the stable receiver with 323 yards on 21 receptions in 2021, will now improve the shade of black and gold and dress for Purdue, according to the report.
Moore used to be one of the potential portals with the longest tenure before he made the decision for the weekend. The former prominent LSU representative, who shone like a real freshman while the Tigers were rebuilt in 2020, appeared on the portal in October shortly after the letter was on the wall for Ed Orgeron’s staff in Baton Rouge. There was not much fuss about Moore’s name regarding his new destination until he scheduled a visit to Auburn. The weekend trip ended with the decision of the native Louisiana, which went public within the SEC, reuniting with his former teammate from LSU and quarterback from AU TJ Finley.
Other decisions of the portal over the weekend include Rico Powers who committed to Deion Sanders and Jackson State, Illinois quarterback Matt Robinson who committed to return to his native California and play for Fresno State, and offensive player Alabama Daine Shore who announced plans for association. with Jim Mora at UConn. Several players also entered the portal over the weekend, while the seemingly endless cycle of changing colors of college players continued.

One of the most sought-after candidates for junior colleges on Saturday is in Roman Rasada. Outstanding defensive college back Diablo Valley considered Miami, Virginia Tech and Ole Miss before choosing the Rebels. He went on an official visit to Oxford during the week, together with his brother and the highest class of quarterback from 2023, Jaden Rashad, and soon after that he finished his recruitment. Missouri and Tennessee added commitments for younger colleges during the week.
The primary path to gaining talent in college football is still being pulled out of the preparatory ranks. This weekend was a sharp reminder as the volume disappeared. Some 16 Power 5 programs have added at least one recruit, publicly, since the start of the first official weekend visit of the month. Pete, Arizona, Illinois and Virginia added more recruits, and the Panthers made six new promises to the board after entering the weekend with only a couple.
Soon the P5 program hit the headlines with the largest number of people over the weekend, at least from a decision-based perspective. Cincinnati, which will of course start in the Big 12 in 2023, added a staggering eight verbal obligations over the weekend. The Bearcats built one of the bigger classes before this point, so doubling the total in a few days gives Luke Fickell’s program the third promise so far in the ’23 cycle with 16 (Texas Tech has 20, Notre Dame has 17).
Many of Bearcats ’commitments of course had options to play in the Power 5 conferences, but one of the promises is a previous promise in those ranks at Daeh McCullough. The former Indiana commitment and local perspective returned to the recruiting market on May 19, and a trip to Cincinnati was organized soon after. The closure of the defensive back, which has renewed the interest of Penn State, Miami and others, is the latest example of the program’s ability to compete for top talent. This is a series of recruiting victories, a la SI99 dog onslaught by Mario Eugenio in ’22, holding the UC king among Group 5 programs on the field.
Although verbal obligations mostly move the needle, it should be noted that the initial visit on weekends of the month also played well in blue blood programs in sports. Arch Manning spent the weekend in Georgia, on his first official visit, while UGA presented completely white uniforms through photographing recruits. Clemson hosted perhaps the largest group of official visitors of all time, as about 30 recruits spent the weekend in the city on a coin authorized by the ACC. Alabama, Texas A&M, Auburn, Nebraska and Wisconsin have probably hosted talent who will be added to the to-do list later.
Expect more movements in June and July before the start Sports Illustrated debut in the team recruiting rankings in August.
