BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - Birmingham police said 12 cars were stolen from residents over a nine-day period, and 7-10 of them were left unlocked with keys inside.
Here is what the police said about each of the incidents.
Larchlea Drive

When: 07:22 June 8th

Where: 500 Larchlea Drive block
Police received a call at 7:22 a.m. on June 8 from a 44-year-old man who said his vehicle had been stolen.
The man said that he last saw the vehicle around 22:45 the night before. According to authorities, he was parked in his driveway.
The man said that he left the keys in the car and that it was unlocked.
At the time of the theft, the vehicle contained a laptop, credit cards, cash and sports equipment, officials said.
Lake Park Drive

Where: 400 block Lake Park Drive
A police officer was called at 10:02 a.m. on June 8 and spoke to a 44-year-old woman who said her vehicle was stolen.
She said that the last time she saw the vehicle was around 5 pm the night before in her driveway.

Her keys were left in the vehicle, and it was unlocked, authorities say.
Pleasant Avenue

Where: 1000 blocks Pleasant Avenue
A 50-year-old man called police around 5:45 p.m. on June 8 and said his vehicle was stolen from the driveway, according to officials.
Authorities said the keys were left in his vehicle, which was unlocked at the time of the theft.
The witness told the police that the vehicle stopped at 3.24 am before the man approached. Someone in black gloves and a mask came out and headed in the direction of his vehicle, the witness said. Moments later, the man’s vehicle backed down the driveway and headed south on Pleasant Avenue, police said.
The owner said that he left a vacuum cleaner, drill and other various tools in the vehicle.
Stanley Boulevard

Where: 500 block of Stanley Boulevard
A 43-year-old man called police on June 8 at 8:26 p.m. and reported that his vehicle had been stolen from the driveway.
Police said the vehicle was last seen at 2:25 p.m., and the owner noticed it was missing at 3:30 p.m. He said that he could not find the keys and that he did not remember whether he left them in the vehicle, nor was it unlocked.

Officials said there were no signs of forcible entry into the driveway.
The witness told authorities that a vehicle matching the description of the 43-year-old man was seen on Stanley Boulevard around 2:45 p.m.
Maple Road

When: 12:46 pm June 10

Where: 1600 block West Maple Road
Police were called to the First United Methodist Church on West Maple Road at 12:46 p.m. on June 10. They learned that a vehicle had been stolen from the northeast parking lot.
The theft happened between 9.30 pm and 10 pm the night before, the authorities announced.
The witness said that he saw an unknown person trying to enter the locked door of the church before she approached the vehicle, officials said. That person got into the vehicle and drove south, they said.
The person who reported the theft said that the keys were in the possession of the church and that it was believed that the vehicle was locked.
Townsend Street

Where: 400 block in Townsend Street
A 50-year-old man reported another vehicle theft at 11:04 a.m. on June 12. He said the vehicle was last seen on the street at 3:30 p.m. on June 10, according to authorities.

The man told police that this was the second time his vehicle had been stolen from the location. He said the key was left in his car at the time of the theft.
The witness said he saw someone in a hooded sweatshirt walking around looking under the vehicle.
Haines Street - 8:52 p.m.

Where: 1800 block Haines Street
A police officer was called at 8:52 a.m. on June 13 for another vehicle theft on Haines Street.
A 52-year-old man said his vehicle was last seen around 11pm on June 12 in front of his house, according to officials.
Police said the man admitted it was possible that the keys were left in the vehicle, which was unlocked at the time.
There were no witnesses to the theft, authorities said.
Haines Street - 9:03 a.m.

Where: 1800 block Haines Street
Police said the second theft was reported in block 1800 on Haines Street, just minutes after the first.
A 31-year-old man said his vehicle was last seen around 10:30 p.m. on June 12 in his driveway. The keys were left in the unlocked vehicle at the time of the theft, according to the authorities.

The owner said that the application for tracking his vehicle revealed that it was parked in Detroit. Police found the vehicle and tried to wipe their fingerprints, but, as they said, they did not find them.
The car was returned to the owner.
Suffield Avenue

A 61-year-old man called police around 7:30 a.m. on June 16 and said his vehicle was confiscated overnight.
It was parked in front of his house, the man said. Both keys were in his possession at the time of the theft, officials said.
Fairview Avenue - 7:53 p.m.

Where: 1700 block Fairview Avenue
Police were called at 7:53 a.m. on June 16 to the home of a 48-year-old man who said his vehicle was stolen overnight.
He said he was parked on the street in front of his house, authorities said.
Police said the owner could not find one of his keys and did not remember if he was left in the vehicle at the time of the theft.
The witness said that he saw that the lights on the vehicle turned on around 2:50 in the morning and that the vehicle went west to Fairview Avenue, officials said.

Puritan Avenue

Where: 100 block Puritan Avenue
A 40-year-old woman called police on June 16 at 8:21 a.m. and said her vehicle was stolen from the driveway overnight.
According to officials, the keys were left in the vehicle at the time of the theft.
The witness said he saw the lights on the vehicle come on around 1:56 a.m., before heading back down the driveway and heading north at Puritan Avenue at high speed, authorities said.
Fairview Avenue - 12:35 p.m.

Where: 1800 block Fairview Avenue
On June 16, at around 12:35 pm, a local visited the police department to report a stolen vehicle.
He said his vehicle was taken from his house overnight. The keys were left inside and the vehicle was unlocked, officials said.
Police said that a wallet was left in the vehicle at the time of the theft.
Police found the vehicle using its satellite technology, they said. It was returned to the owner.
